What this means for a Tennessee counselor
A counselor who lives in Tennessee and holds an unencumbered Licensed Professional Counselor, Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) can apply through CompactConnect for a privilege to practice in any other live state: Arizona, Minnesota, Ohio, Louisiana, Georgia, Indiana, Arkansas, Wyoming. Each remote state is a separate request with its own fee, and some require a jurisprudence exam first.
Counselors from those states can likewise apply for a Tennessee privilege and treat Tennessee clients in person or by telehealth, under Tennessee practice law.
CE does not change. Privilege holders complete continuing education for their home state only, so the Tennessee license keeps its own renewal cycle and every privilege renews with it. The Tennessee rule is on the Tennessee counselor CE page.
