What this means for a Florida counselor

Enactment puts Florida in the compact; it does not switch privileges on. The board still has to complete the Commission's technical and regulatory steps, including loading its license data into CompactConnect. Until the Commission lists Florida as live, a Florida licensee cannot apply for a privilege and counselors from live states cannot use one in Florida.

In the meantime, practicing in another state means licensure by endorsement with that state's board, and each license you hold keeps its own CE cycle. The Florida rule is on the Florida counselor CE page.

9 states are live today: Arizona, Minnesota, Ohio, Louisiana, Georgia, Indiana, Arkansas, Wyoming, Tennessee. The Commission announces each go-live on its news page.

Questions about Florida and the compact

Is Florida in the Counseling Compact?

Yes. Florida has enacted the Counseling Compact, but it is not live yet. Florida has enacted the Counseling Compact but is not yet issuing or accepting privileges to practice.

Can a Florida counselor practice in other states under the compact?

Not yet. Florida has to finish implementation and begin issuing privileges before its licensees can apply for one. Until then, practicing in another state means licensure by endorsement there.

Does a compact privilege change Florida CE requirements?

No, because there is no privilege to hold yet. Every Florida license, and every out-of-state license a Florida counselor keeps, still renews on its own board's CE cycle.
