- FORMAT CAPS/MINIMUMS: There is no self-study/home-study cap, no minimum live/in-person hours, and no per-day or single-course/single-instructor cap in 172 NAC 155. Homestudy and videos are acceptable activities with no percentage or absolute limit; a licensee may earn all 24 hours through workshop/attendance activities. 60 minutes of presentation or attendance equals 1 CE hour. The only floor is the 3-hour ethics subject requirement.
- ACCEPTABILITY STANDARDS: For the "presenting, attending, or completing programs" pathway (§ 014.02(D)), the activity must be approved by one of the eleven named organizations: AAMFT or its state chapters; ACA or its state chapters or NBCC; the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCCC/ANCCCA); Nebraska Medical Association (NMA); Nebraska Nurses Association (NNA); NAADAC; NASW or its state chapters; ACCME; the American Medical Association (AMA) or its state chapters; and the American Psychological Association (APA) or its state chapters. Nebraska does not pre-review or approve individual CE offerings. Graduate academic coursework at regionally accredited institutions (§ 014.02(A)/(B)) and peer-reviewed publications (§ 014.02(C)) are acceptable on their own terms and do not require one of the eleven organizations' approval.
- COURSE REPEAT RESTRICTIONS: Credit for developing/teaching a graduate academic course is granted only for the first time the licensee teaches the course during the renewal period and cannot be used for subsequent renewal periods (§ 014.02(A)). Completing a graduate-level course earns credit only the first time it is completed (§ 014.02(B)). Publication credit may be earned only in the year of publication or first distribution (§ 014.02(C)). No carryover of excess CE hours to the next period is permitted.
- LICENSE STATUS RULES: Inactive status — a credential may be placed on inactive status on written request and may remain inactive indefinitely; the licensee may not practice while inactive, and there is no fee or CE requirement for inactive status (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 38-142(3)). Nebraska has no separate "retired" tier; inactive status is the mechanism. Reactivation / reinstatement requires that the applicant has met the continuing competency (CE) requirements — effectively 24 hours (3 ethics) as under § 014 (172 NAC 155 § 015; 172 NAC 10 § 007.03). Hours taken to reinstate a lapsed license may also be applied to the renewal at the end of that same renewal period, so no additional hours are required for that renewal. This reactivation/ reinstatement obligation is flagged for manual review because it depends on the reinstatement process rather than a fixed additive amount the current credit window can evaluate.
- WAIVERS: The department may waive continuing competency requirements, in whole or in part, upon documentation that circumstances beyond the credential holder's control prevented completion, expressly including service in the regular armed forces during the credentialing period and first-credentialed status (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 38-146(2)). Military service additionally exempts both the CE and the renewal fee (172 NAC 10 § 004.03(A)). No maximum duration is specified; the process is submission of supporting documentation.
