  • TIER STRUCTURE: Louisiana CPD uses two tiers (no lettered Category A/B groups). Tier 1 — Sponsored CPD (workshops/conferences from acceptable sponsors under §805.C) has NO hour limit. Tier 2 — optional un-sponsored activities under §806.D (un-sponsored workshops/conferences, peer consultation/supervision, practice outcome monitoring, professional activities, registered conference attendance, academic courses, instruction, publications) are collectively capped at 10 credits per reporting period. Practice outcome monitoring: 1 client = 1 credit per reporting period.
  • SELF-STUDY / HOME STUDY: APA home-study courses (from APA-approved sponsors) are treated as sponsored workshops with NO cap. Only un-sponsored/self-directed activities fall under the 10-credit §806.D cap. The '12 hours of home study' figure in outdated third-party summaries reflects the pre-2023 rule.
  • LIVE / FORMAT: No minimum live or in-person hours. A live workshop delivered by video conference/virtual format has the same status as in-person (LAC 46:LXIII.805.D.1). Live-interactive online is treated as live.
  • ACCEPTABILITY STANDARDS: Only CPD offerings and activities approved by the Board satisfy the requirement (§805.A), but standard activities are automatically approved (no pre-approval) if they (1) meet §801.A objectives, (2) have an acceptable sponsor under §805.C, and (3) are a live/virtual/prerecorded workshop or conference under §805.D. §807 (Unacceptable Offerings) bars activities unrelated to psychology and personal psychotherapy. The §803.B/C cross-reference to §807 'limitations' is a drafting artifact — §807 contains no numeric limit; ethics/law and multicultural hours must simply be drawn from acceptable (not 'unacceptable') offerings.
  • COURSE REPEAT RESTRICTIONS: For instruction (teaching/presenting), credit is received only the first time teaching or presenting the material (LAC 46:LXIII.806.D.7). Workshop presentation = 4× attendee credit ÷ number of presenters (first time only); university-course teaching = 10× student credit hours (first time only). Practice outcome monitoring: a given client counts as 1 credit per reporting period. No repeat restriction stated for a licensee taking a course.
  • LICENSE STATUS RULES: Louisiana provides no general 'inactive' CE-exempt tier for psychologists. 'Psychologist Emerit: Retired' status is exempt from CPD (LAC 46:LXIII.811.D, 905) and is prohibited from practicing. Reactivation from emerit/retired to Licensed Psychologist requires a Reinstatement Application, the required fee, and fulfillment of all CPD requirements under Chapter 8; a psychologist returning to full practice after five or more years is also subject to an oral examination before reinstatement (§905.C-D). Waivers: military (§811.A) and illness/personal hardship (§811.B) may be granted an extension or exemption upon timely confirmation. Newly licensed psychologists are exempt from CPD for the remainder of the year the license is granted (§811.C).
  • REINSTATEMENT / LAPSE: A license not renewed by July 31 lapses as of August 1. For two years from the date of lapse, the license may be renewed upon proof of fulfilling all CE requirements applicable through the date of reinstatement plus all fees due (§815.A); after two years, reinstatement requires a new oral examination (§815.B). CPD obtained after June 30 may not be claimed without an approved CPD extension.
  • PENDING (NOT YET EFFECTIVE): The board voted (Jan 2025) to propose reducing the psychologist CPD total from 40 to 30 hours, adding Academic Courses to §805.D at a 1:1 ratio, and repealing the §806.D un-sponsored activities. This is NOT codified/effective; 40 hours remains operative. PSYPACT participation becomes effective January 1, 2028 (Act 302, 2026) — a mobility overlay outside the ordinary CPD total.
  • INITIAL LICENSURE: The exemption covers only the remainder of the calendar year in which the license is granted; it is not a blanket first-renewal or first-biennium exemption. The full 40-hour obligation begins with the next complete biennial reporting period tied to license-number parity.
  • ACADEMIC COURSEWORK: §806.D awards 20 credits for a three-hour graduate course while all §806.D unsponsored activities are collectively capped at 10 credits per reporting period. The conversion is encoded at its stated 20-credit value and the aggregate cap limits the amount applied to the total.
  • DEADLINE EXTENSIONS: CPD ordinarily closes June 30. Hours completed after June 30 count only when the Board has approved an extension; the engine cannot condition its accrual window on that case-by-case approval, so extension credits require manual review.
