Full board policy details
  • Psychologists must obtain 40 hours of CE per biennium (Aug 1 odd year – Jul 31 next odd year). A minimum of 10 hours must be obtained via face-to-face or live webinar (live webinar is treated as live, not self-study); the remaining up to 30 hours may be completed via home/self-study. No percentage cap on self-study is stated beyond this live-format floor. No per-day or single-instructor course-attendance cap exists.
  • FIRST-CYCLE PRORATION: CE for a first (or reactivation) cycle is prorated by the six-month window of issuance. Psychologist figures: granted 8/1(odd) – 1/31(even) = 30 CE (2 ethics / 2 CIED); 2/1 – 7/31(even) = 20 CE (1/1); 8/1(even) – 1/31(odd) = 10 CE (1/1); 2/1 – 7/31(odd) = 0 CE (no CE required). The 10-hour live-format minimum is not restated for prorated first cycles.
  • COURSE REPEAT RESTRICTIONS: Teaching an academic course may be submitted only for the first time a course is presented. For a workshop/seminar, credit can be earned only once for teaching a particular seminar or workshop and is not eligible for re-submission at any time. Paper/poster presentation CEs can be submitted only for the first time presented in a unique subject. Graduate-course and teaching credit require the course to end/occur within the renewal period; publications are credited only in the renewal period during which they are published. The rule does NOT prohibit attending the same course twice in a cycle.
  • LICENSE STATUS RULES: A license may be placed on inactive status for a maximum of 5 years; as of December 11, 2024, inactive Psychologist licenses are no longer renewable. No CE accrues while inactive, but CE is owed at reactivation: inactive 1 year or less = 20 CE hours (incl. 3 ethics + 3 CIED); inactive more than 1 year = 40 CE hours (incl. 3 ethics + 3 CIED) completed within 24 months prior to reapplication. Both reactivation bands are structurally enforced via conditional_requirements (the 20-hour band substitutes the base total via a replace-mode block). Reactivation also requires a letter, prorated reactivation fee, and a criminal-background check. No separate "retired" status exists for psychologists. Hardship extension: an applicant may be granted an extension of time to complete CE upon a showing of hardship (disability, illness, extended absence, exceptional family responsibilities); written request must be submitted before the end of the licensing period with the renewal fee; maximum duration not stated (Board discretion). Make-up of Board-disallowed hours: 3 months after the disallowance notice to complete remaining credits; these make-up credits may not be used toward the subsequent renewal period. No carryover of excess hours is permitted.
  • ACCEPTABILITY STANDARDS: Activities from APA-approved CE sponsors are automatically accepted. Non-APA programs are eligible if the material is relevant to professional practice and provides the equivalent of APA-defined credit, on submission of documentation (relevance, objectives, faculty, and a certificate of attendance), subject to board review. A CE hour is one sixty-minute period unless otherwise specified. The Board reserves the right to reject any CE credit outside the scope of the practice of psychology. The following will NOT be considered for credit: service to organizations; attending business meetings of professional organizations; business management or office administration courses; group supervision; or case conferences. Telepsychology competence must be maintained through CE but carries no separate hour count (subsumed in the 40-hour requirement).
