- The current rule (IDAPA 24.12.01.100.06, effective 2023-03-28) imposes NO format constraints. There is no self-study/home-study cap, no minimum live/in-person hours, no live-vs-self-study distinction, and no per-day/per-credit/single-course/single-instructor cap. (The pre-2023 rule capped online CE at 10 hours and teleconference CE at 6 hours per reporting period; both caps were deleted in the 2023 rewrite and are NOT in the current codified rule.)
- ACCEPTABILITY STANDARDS: CE must be at an appropriate level for professional training in psychology, and the licensee is responsible for demonstrating the relevance and adequacy of the educational experience selected. Licensees are responsible for choosing quality continuing education programs that focus on protecting the health and safety of the public and contribute to their germane profession. The current rule sets NO provider-approval gate (no APA-approved-sponsor test, no provider tiers); the board does not pre-approve providers and places the burden on the licensee to select relevant, professional-level programs.
- NO CARRYOVER PERMITTED: the current rule contains no carryover provision and is silent, so excess hours may not be carried forward. (The pre-2023 rule allowed a 20-hour carryover; that provision was deleted in the 2023 rewrite.)
- ACTIVITY CATEGORIES / CONVERSIONS: the current rule enumerates no activity types, no named/lettered activity groups, no "draw from N categories" rule, and no per-category floor. CE is credited on a one-CE-hour-per-clock-hour basis by default with no non-1:1 conversions defined. (Pre-2023 conversions such as "6 hours for documented attendance at national/regional meetings" were removed in the 2023 rewrite.)
- COURSE REPEAT RESTRICTIONS: the current rule contains no provision addressing teaching credit or repeated teaching credit (teaching is not enumerated as a creditable activity), and no other conditional restriction on repeating a course. Not addressed.
- LICENSE STATUS RULES: Inactive status (PSYI) exists (statute Idaho Code 54-2305(7); "Inactive License Renewal" fee). Per agency guidance, CE for maintaining a PSY license is waived while inactive, but licensees may not practice in Idaho. NOTE: the explicit inactive-status CE-waiver text was REMOVED from the codified rule in the 2023 rewrite and now lives in board guidance rather than in 24.12.01 — confirm the current mechanism with the board. No separate retired CE status exists for psychologists. Reactivation of a lapsed license (lapsed less than five years) requires a renewal application, payment of all back renewal fees, a reinstatement fee, and "proof of completion of continuing education as required in the rules"; a license lapsed more than five years requires a new application for licensure. The rule states no distinct numeric CE make-up figure or window for reactivation (presumably the standard 30/2-yr applies) — MANUAL REVIEW. No codified hardship/illness/military/disability CE waiver exists (the former "Special Exemption" was deleted in the 2023 rewrite).
- DUAL CLOCKS: The engine cycle is the two-calendar-year CE window (January 1 through December 31 of the following year). The license itself expires on the licensee's birthday; that separate birthday renewal clock is administrative and does not redefine the CE accrual window.
- INITIAL LICENSURE: A new licensee is treated as CE-compliant only for the remainder of the calendar year in which the license is granted. This is not a blanket first-renewal exemption; the normal 30-hour obligation applies once the licensee enters a complete biennial calendar-year CE period.
