Full board policy details
  • Online and home-study CE is generally accepted with no percentage cap for LPC/LCPC/LMFT/LAMFT, provided the course is interactive or includes an examination. No minimum number of live or in-person hours is required.
  • CE must come from recognized providers such as NBCC, APA, ASWB, or AAMFT-approved sponsors. Idaho does not pre-approve individual courses; provider acceptance is the gating criterion.
  • Course repeat restrictions: Idaho rules do not explicitly prohibit repeating a course, but the Board expects distinct learning activities each cycle. Credit for teaching, presenting, or publication is NOT available — only participation as a learner counts toward the 12 hours.
  • License status rules — inactive/reactivation: Licensees on inactive status are exempt from CE during the inactive period and may not practice. To reactivate, the licensee must document 12 hours of CE (6 ethics, 3 boundaries, 3 suicide) completed within the 24 months preceding reactivation. Senior/retired status licensees are exempt from CE but may not practice. Idaho does not offer a formal CE waiver or hardship extension; licensees short on CE must either go inactive or let the license lapse and reinstate. No exam-substitution pathway exists in lieu of CE clock hours.
  • License status rules — lapsed/reinstatement: A licensee whose license has lapsed must complete the full 12-hour CE requirement (6 ethics, 3 boundaries, 3 suicide) before the license can be reinstated. Reinstatement also requires payment of the standard renewal fee plus any applicable late fee, and confirmation to the Board that the required CE has been completed. Practicing on a lapsed license is not permitted.
