Full board policy details
- All 45 hours may be earned via online or in-person continuing education classes. There is no minimum live/in-person requirement and no cap on self-study or online learning.
- Instructor/presenter credit is granted at 1 CE hour per hour taught, capped at 6 hours per renewal period. Credit may be received only once for a particular presentation topic — repeating the same presentation does not yield additional credit in the same cycle. Teaching a college course as part of regular faculty duties is not eligible for CE credit.
- Repeating the same CE course as an attendee does not yield additional credit within a single renewal cycle. Each unique course can be counted once.
- Retired status: while a license is retired, the licensee is exempt from the CE requirement for renewal. Wyoming does not offer a general 'inactive' status — the only options are active (with CE) or retired (no CE, no practice).
- Reactivation from retired status requires completion of 45 contact hours of CE in the two years immediately preceding reapplication, plus payment of the renewal fee and a professional disclosure statement.
- Wyoming does not provide a conditional renewal or grace period to complete CE after the renewal deadline. If CE is not completed by expiration, the license expires and the licensee may not practice until relicensed. No hardship, illness, or military CE waiver is codified.
- No exam substitution pathway: Wyoming does not permit taking the NCE, NCMHCE, or AMFTRB exam in lieu of CE hours for renewal.
- First renewal: Wyoming does not provide a reduced or prorated CE requirement for the first renewal. The full 45-hour requirement applies even when the initial license period exceeds 24 months (which it may, since initial licenses expire on the first birthday after the two-year mark).
- CE content must have significant intellectual content and be related to the licensee's professional scope of practice. Activities that fall outside the profession's scope of practice are not admissible as CE.
- CE presenters/instructors should hold a graduate-level degree in a field relevant to the course content for the activity to count as CE. Sessions presented by individuals without appropriate graduate-level credentials in the subject matter may not be admissible.
- A college or university course completed by the licensee as a student that is relevant to counseling or marriage and family therapy practice is eligible for CE credit upon submission of a transcript documenting completion.
