A licensee shall seek renewal every two (2) years1 on or before their birthday. … Evidence of completion of forty-five (45) contact hours1 of CE that comply with Section 4. … Licensees shall complete at least three (3) contact hours of CE activities in each of the following: (A) Professional ethics2; and (B) Suicide assessment or intervention3. … CE credit will be allowed for presenting4 at venues designed to increase other mental health professionals’ knowledge base. (A) One (1) hour of credit shall be allowed for each hour of presentation, up to a maximum of six (6) hours4 during each renewal period … (iv) Attending a meeting of the Board5. One (1) hour of credit will be allowed for each hour of attendance, up to a maximum of three (3) contact hours5 of CE during the renewal period.

Full board policy details
  • All 45 hours may be completed online; there is no live or in-person minimum.
  • A professional presentation may earn no more than six hours and may be claimed only once for a particular topic. This does not prohibit an attendee from repeating a CE course.
  • Attendance at public Board meetings may supply no more than three hours per renewal period.
  • The full 45 hours apply at first renewal because an initial license remains valid until the first birthday after the licensee has held it for at least two years.
  • Licensed Addictions Therapists (independent), Certified Addictions Practitioners and Certified Addictions Practitioner Assistants (both supervised; Ch. 1 1-3) renew on this rule and also owe 15 hours in addictions-specific topics (Ch. 14 4(c)).
  • Relicensure or return from retired status requires 45 hours completed during the preceding two years. A lapse longer than five years can also require reexamination.
