Full board policy details
- No format caps or minimums. Wyo. Code R. 078-14-4(d) allows CE to be earned through continuing education classes, online courses, college courses, presentations, or attendance at board meetings. There is no cap on self-study or home-study hours and no minimum number of live or in-person hours. All 45 hours may be earned online or via self-study.
- Live-interactive online courses are accepted under the general "online courses" allowance in Wyo. Code R. 078-14-4(d)(ii) and count the same as any other CE hour.
- Provider approval: Wyoming does not maintain a board-approved provider list and does not require CE to be from board-approved providers. Courses must have significant intellectual or practical content relevant to social work practice. CE from any reputable source (APA, ASWB, NBCC, NASW, CSWE-accredited schools, etc.) is acceptable.
- Course repeat restrictions: For licensees who teach/present CE courses, an instructor may claim only one credit hour per hour of presentation, up to 6 hours per renewal period, and credit may be received only once for a particular presentation topic within a renewal period (Wyo. Code R. 078-14-4). Teaching regular college, vocational, or technical school curriculum does not qualify for CE credit. The rule does not impose a blanket prohibition on attendees repeating the same course, but duplicate content is not expected to yield additional valid CE.
- License status — retired: Per Wyo. Code R. 078-14-5, a licensee not practicing may declare retired status and is exempt from CE requirements while retired. Wyoming's rules do not define a separate "inactive" status for this board; non-practicing licensees must either renew actively (meeting full CE) or let the license lapse.
- Reactivation from retired status: To reactivate, a former retiree must complete 45 CE hours in the two years immediately preceding the reactivation application and pay the prorated renewal fee (Wyo. Code R. 078-14-5(g)).
- Conditional registration: Wyoming does not provide a conditional or provisional renewal status for licensees short on CE. A licensee who fails to renew timely (including CE compliance) has their license expire and may not practice until appropriately licensed (Wyo. Code R. 078-14-3(g)).
