Full board policy details
- Total 32 hours of CE related to mental health practice per 24-month cycle, including 4 hours of ethics (all holders) and 6 hours of diagnosis/treatment of major mental disorders (LIMHP tier only). Holding an LMHP/LIMHP base license plus one or more associated certificates (CMFT, CPC, CMSW) does NOT stack CE — a single 32-hour block satisfies all credentials held (172 NAC 94-012.02).
- No self-study/home-study cap. Home study, video, and electronically transmitted programs are credited as determined by the program provider; all 32 hours may be earned by home study/online (172 NAC 94-012.03(D)). No minimum live/in-person hours and no per-day or per-credit caps exist.
- Interactive webinars, workshops, and lectures count on a 60 minutes = 1 CE hour basis, treated as live attendance (172 NAC 94-012.03(F)). Asynchronous/recorded video is credited under 012.03(D).
- Academic credit conversions: 1 semester credit = 15 CE hours; 1 quarter credit = 10 CE hours; 1 trimester credit = 14 CE hours (172 NAC 94-012.03(A)).
- Non-acceptable subject matter (excluded content): association leadership training; business technology/techniques/management; association business meetings or delegate reports (172 NAC 94-012.05).
- Course repeat restriction (presenters/instructors only): an individual may receive credit for the initial presentation of a program/course during a renewal period; credit is not given for subsequent presentations of the same program or course (172 NAC 94-012.04). There is no express repeat restriction for ordinary attendees.
- License status rules: While a credential is on INACTIVE status the holder may not practice and active-renewal CE does not apply (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 38-142(3); 172 NAC 10-004.04). Nebraska has no separate "retired" tier for this profession — treat retired as inactive. Returning to active practice is handled as REINSTATEMENT (172 NAC 10-007), which requires the full CE (32 hours incl. 4 ethics, plus 6 major-mental-disorders hours for LIMHP) over the preceding 24 months. Military service is a full CE and fee waiver (172 NAC 10-004.03(A)). First-credentialed within the 24 months before renewal is fully CE-waived (172 NAC 10-004.03(B)). No illness/hardship CE waiver exists in chapter 94.
- Provider approval is genuinely absent: Nebraska does not pre-approve, review, or register CE providers or courses. Acceptability is content-based (related to mental health practice, within 172 NAC 94-012.03 categories, not excluded by 012.05). No minimum percentage from approved providers applies.
