Recurring mandates outside the 2 years cycle
- Each licensee must complete 40 hours of collaboration every 2 years under Mhp 403.01 and Mhp 403.02. Collaboration is separate from CE and does not count toward the 40-hour CE total. Qualifying collaboration includes small-group meetings among licensed practitioners, supervision or consultation, study groups, expert consultation, clinical-research collaboration, and provider hospital meetings.
Full board policy details
- At least 30 of the 40 CE hours must be Category A, and no more than 10 hours may be Category B. Category A includes qualifying seminars, workshops, live interactive webinars, online or home-study courses, academic coursework or teaching, preparation of new or substantially updated presentations or courses, and peer-reviewed publications under Mhp 402.04. Category B includes participation in mental-health seminars or workshops that do not meet Category A requirements and the other activities specifically allowed by Mhp 402.04(b). Category B is not a synonym for self-study.
- The 6 ethics hours and the 3 suicide-prevention hours must be earned from Category A. Suicide-prevention training must be provided by a nationally recognized, evidence-based or best-practices training organization in suicide prevention, intervention, or post-vention. It must address how mental illness, substance use disorders, trauma, or interpersonal violence directly impacts suicide risk (RSA 330-A:10, XI).
- Home study is a Category A activity and is capped at 30 hours per cycle for LMFTs under Mhp 402.04(a)(2)a. This limit is separate from the 10-hour Category B cap. The codified rule has no explicit live or in-person minimum; live seminars, in-person workshops, and live interactive webinars are non-home-study Category A activities.
- Activity credit values are not aggregate cycle caps: preparation of a seminar, workshop, or live interactive webinar earns 10 CE hours; preparing and teaching a new course earns 10 hours; thoroughly updating a course earns 5 hours; academic coursework or teaching converts at 6 CE hours per semester credit hour or 4 per quarter credit hour; a peer-reviewed professional book earns 10 hours; and a peer-reviewed professional-journal article earns 6 hours. In Category B, a professional book earns 6 hours and professional-journal articles may earn no more than 5 hours per year. Board members receive 6 CE hours per year toward ethics under Mhp 402.01(g).
- Course-repeat restrictions are not explicit. Credit values for a new course and for thoroughly updating an existing course attach credit to new or substantially revised material, but the codified rule neither expressly permits nor categorically prohibits claiming an otherwise qualifying repeated course.
- CE waiver or extension: under Mhp 402.05, a renewal applicant who has not completed Mhp 402.01 may petition the Board at least 60 days before license expiration. The applicant must show qualifying health, disability, family-emergency, or extreme-financial-hardship grounds and agree to complete the CE within a Board-approved period not exceeding one year.
