- Provider approval: "DMH allows for the preapproval of various conferences, workshops/educational activities, etc., for DMH professional credentialing continuing education hours"; activities "which have not been through the CE preapproval process" are "subject to the approval of the Division at the time of renewal". Acceptable sources include training through the holder's place of employment (including DMH-required training under the DMH Operational Standards), DMH-sponsored training, and Division-approved conferences/workshops (Rule 18.13(N)-(P)). Activities "should be presented by a qualified presenter and contain clearly-outlined learning objectives. Meetings, regular work activities, staffing sessions, breaks, social activities, etc., do not count" (Rule 18.13(R)). The engine does not check provider identity.
- CE time unit: "Continuing education unit time calculation requires a minimum of 30 consecutive minutes in an appropriate CE activity" (Rule 18.13(D)). The 2017 text required 60 consecutive minutes per hour; the 2026 text sets a 30-minute minimum without saying how a 30-minute activity converts to hours. Log the clock hours on the certificate.
- Graduate course: "One three-semester hour (or equivalent) graduate-level behavioral health-related college course from an approved educational institution, taken during the appropriate certification/licensure time period, will be considered to meet the entire continuing education hour (CE) requirement for renewal, contingent upon also meeting the requirements pertaining to ethics and cultural competence continuing education activities" (Rule 18.13(J)). Behavioral health online college courses are exempt from the 80 percent non-interactive limit (Rule 18.13(I)). Not encoded: a holder using a graduate course should log it as 30 hours and still log the two ethics and two cultural competency hours.
- Ineligible hours: courses must be "beyond the course work necessary to meet the educational requirement for DMH professional credentialing" (Rule 18.13(K)); "Relevant training which is completed on an annual basis may only be counted once during the two-year renewal cycle period" (Rule 18.13(Q)); and "Any activity completed for the purpose of achieving the Substance Use Therapist certification (such as the web-based training component for upgrade from PCSUT to CSUT) is not eligible for CE credit" (Rule 18.13(S)).
- Mid-cycle certification: the hours are not prorated (Rule 18.13(L)) and a new CSUT's expiration is set to the program's next renewal deadline (Rule 17.2(C)), so a CSUT certified partway through a period owes the full 30 at the next even-year June 30. DMH's 2024 renewal directions state that individuals who obtained the credential after the period began "can still count appropriate CE hours which were earned prior to having received their credential, if these appropriate CE hours fall within the aforementioned time frame" (https://www.dmh.ms.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2024-Current-Addictions-Therapist-Renewal-Directions-and-Forms.pdf). This tracker only counts hours completed on or after the credential's issue date, so a newly certified CSUT with earlier in-period hours will see fewer hours applied than DMH would accept.
- 2026 deadline change: Provider Bulletin IO0176 (March 30, 2026) moved the June 30, 2026 renewal deadline for CAT and LCAT holders to September 30, 2026, "for the 2026 renewal deadline ONLY", and let them "continue to meet the Continuing Education (CE) requirements through the revised Renewal deadline of September 30, 2026" (https://www.dmh.ms.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Provider-Bulletin-IO0176-PLACE-Mental-Health-and-Addictions-Renewal-change-in-renewal-deadline-date.pdf). The encoded window for the 2028 renewal begins July 1, 2026; hours completed July 1 to September 30, 2026 and already claimed for the 2026 renewal should not be claimed again (DMH has not said either way).
- Dual credentials: DMH credentials "are designed primarily for individuals who are not already professionally credentialed", and "Persons already professionally licensed by another state board or agency are not required to be certified/licensed" by DMH (Rule 1.2(A); Miss. Code Ann. 41-4-7(r)). The rules say nothing about sharing hours between a DMH credential and an LPC, LCSW or LMFT, or between two DMH programs; each DMH credential is evaluated on its own CE rule.
