Baker Act training in Florida: who needs the certificate?
The Baker Act — Florida's Mental Health Act (Chapter 394, Part I, Florida Statutes) — allows a person in crisis to be held for an involuntary mental health examination for up to 72 hours. “Baker Act training” is the course that teaches the criteria, who can initiate an examination, the forms, and patient rights.
The important nuance: no Florida licensing board requires a Baker Act certificate to issue or renew an LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT license. The certificate requirement almost always comes from an employer — and the course can still count toward your CE hours.
