Studies show that increased daily physical activity and targeted intention-based exercise routines could be, depending on the situation, as effective or more effective than medications, and far safer. Exercise programs may also be tailored for patients and clients who are unable to walk or have other physical challenges. For example, multicomponent chair-based interventions can improve motor functions and cognition in nonambulatory patients. Health care professionals may also find these exercises helpful for self-care as well, to help reduce burnout and manage stress for better work-life balance.
