RECOVERY RESOURCES

Participants will become certified in Question, Persuade, Refer suicide prevention. Participants will explore local and national resources for suicide prevention. Participants will analyze local and national statistics of suicide. Participants will discuss and role-play techniques for suicide prevention.

This course is designed to introduce the main concepts, purpose, and benefits of Collaborative Documentation, a documentation intervention which describes clinical documentation as a process and intervention rather than just completing a form. This course intends to teach tricks and tips on how to use CD, specifically in a EHR, as well as addressing frequent issues service providers have when using CD. This training also addresses the use of CD for special populations and difficult situations. This training is intended to fully prepare providers to use CD with their clients.

This training offers a view of healing justice practices as defined by Cara Page, "Healing justice...identifies how we can holistically respond to and intervene on generational trauma and violence, and to bring collective practices that can impact and transform the consequences of oppression on our bodies, hearts and minds" https://www.healingbychoicedetroit.com/what-is-healing-justice . This training promotes a healing justice framework for personal and collective transformative healing. While centering the needs of minoritized people, this training will seek to connect the dots between indigenous healing methods with the principles of restorative justice, and political action designed to disrupt and dismantle systems of oppression. Behavioral Health staff often work within a medical model system where the needs of the body are bifurcated from the needs of the mind and soul. Traditional mental health treatment has demonized, criminalized, and pathologized minoritized population' expressions of being that have been in conflict with majority perspectives of mental wellness. This training will support a wholistic view of mental health treatment that will challenge the status quo ways of working with and on behalf of client systems. Training participants will leave this training with a clearer understanding of the ways in which a healing justice approach can support wholistic healing while offering practical means of engaging whole heartedly in sustainable social justice work within the behavioral health context. Objectives: 1) Participants will be able to describe and share with others the concept of healing justice. (2) Participants will be able to evaluate the ways that traditional behavioral health treatment has oppressed minoritized client systems. (3) Participants will be able to analyze and synthesize strategies to center the needs of minoritized client systems within the behavioral health system that support service users in identifying and working to dismantle systems of oppression within that system. (4) Participants will be able to identify collective, indigenous, culturally informed practices that support wholistic health, healing, and the wellbeing of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ service users and colleagues.

This course will describe, define, and apply various theories of addiction, including moral theory, self-medication theory, and others both historical and present-day. Various treatment theories will also be introduced including Cognitive-Behavioral Theory.

OHIO COUNCIL OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH & FAMILY SERVICES PROVIDERS

Participants will understand the recovery housing model and best practices to develop and sustain programs, develop positive work and social cultures, and support administrative practices to promote recovery from substance use disorder. Participants will understand current public policy initiatives related to recovery housing and the impact these policy initiatives have on program planning, administrative practices, and supportive services in order to advocate for and support individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. Participates will understand how to apply the social model of recovery, respond to the needs of special population groups, implement evidence-based practices such as trauma-informed care, MAT, peer supportive services, and supported employment and effectively engage people in order to support individuals with substance use disorders in a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, chronic care approach to recovery and sobriety. Participants will understand confidentiality and its application to SUD treatment and recovery housing. Participants will understand federal rules that apply to programs and how to implement compliant programs and policies.

Course covers the clinical considerations in Ohio with the legalization of THC/cannabis use. Participants will discuss how medical THC use impacts the substance use treatment and develop strategies to manage use in an ethical and legal manner.

This training will focus on motivational enhancement strategies to assist learners in moving clients through the stages of change. Topics will include basic motivational interviewing strategies, developing empathy, and using principles of person-centered care in order to provide counseling with clients diagnosed with Substance Use Disorders and other conditions. Special attention will be paid to working with court-ordered or otherwise mandated clients.

This course is an overview of assessment and diagnosis of substance abuse disorders using the DSM V. Students will learn to recognize the symptoms of SUD in the DSM V. Students will review coding of the Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders in the DSM V. Students will also discuss how trauma may affect the evaluation process and practice symptom recognition and diagnosis using the DSM V.

This course will introduce basic coping skills useful for clients with a variety of mental health and substance use issues. Emphasis will be placed on how to introduce a skill to a client, and teaching the client how to do the coping skill. Group discussion will center on identifying which coping skills to use with which client issues/presentations.
